YOUR NEXT LEVEL ART WORKSHOP

Our retreats focus on taking you out of your comfort zone and introducing new concepts and techniques to your existing process. We start with representational work and then de-construct, re-work, and refine landscapes, still lifes, and figurative work into something fresh and new.

PEACEFUL SURROUNDINGS

Makoa Artist Retreats are connected to the art and craft community of world famous Volcano, Hawaii. We are located in the beautiful rainforest 25 minutes west of Hilo, Hawaii, at an altitude of between 2,000 and 4,000 ft.

How Makoa
Began

Artist and Los Angeles gallery president, Robert Zent Chew and well-known contemporary California Impressionist artist Scott Yeskel created a different kind of artist retreat. We started with the concept of creating a learning and practice environment allowing artists to find a new level in their creativity, based on new daily introduced concepts from the masters. Makoa is ideal for traditional painters looking to add new, contemporary dimensions to their work, but need guidance, study, and demonstration.  But to add to the learning experience, we've created a series of enjoyable excursions, dinners, and outings to make the trip the perfect combination of learning and high-quality getaway.  We consider it a kind of "Artist Safari" in Hawaii.
